The UHI Food Drive was a huge success. Language Arts teacher, Mrs. Barbara Welch, coordinated the school-wide effort. Each grade participated in a friendly competition to see who would bring in the most items for this two-week food drive. The students in the four-year old program won! Over 311 food items and a $35.00 monetary donation were collected and will help to fill the shelves at Sarah’s Table, a Jewish Family Service program.
Thanks to Mrs. Barbara Welch’s fifth grade language arts class, the school-wide food drive to benefit local citizens was a huge success! This food drive is in honor of Dwaina Brooks, a young lady from Dallas, Texas, who became aware of the growing homeless population in her area. She along with her family and friends prepared and delivered sandwiches to homeless shelters. The students read about her generosity In their anthologies.
