UHI Unveils and Awards the first Martin and Janet Popky Volunteer of the Year Award

The unveiling of the first Martin and Janet Popky Volunteer of the Year Award was announced at the UHI Community Picnic on Sunday, August 24th, in Kingston.

The first Volunteer of the Year award was made posthumously to Martin D. Popky, who died in May of this year. His wife, Janet and their two daughters accepted the award. Mrs. Popky said that "He would be very honored, and to have this award named for him is outstanding. I hope it continues to honor people who embody the same philanthropic spirit that he had."

Mr. Popky, whose daughters both attended UHI, served as Chairman of the UHI Board of Directors for two terms as well as serving as on ongoing member of the Board. He assisted the school in many ways from assisting with the annual picnic to responding to security alarms in the middle of the night and everything in between. It was also noted that he was dedicated to UHI and the children. A special fund in his name has been established at UHI.
