UHI ANNUAL COMMUNITY PICNIC
The United Hebrew Institute held its Annual Community Picnic on Sunday, August 24th. The picnic was held on the school grounds and featured traditional Jewish foods along with all time favorites. This much anticipated yearly event had entertainment for all ages and live music including: Herbie Green Orchestra, Freilox & Bagels, Rob Smith's Jugglemazing, and Joe Pizano's Frank Sinatra tribute show.
The highlights of the event were the welcome to Rabbi Roger Lerner of Temple B'nair Brith and his family to the community and the unveiling and announcement of the first Marty and Janet Popky Volunteer of the Year Award.
Marty Popky was given the award posthumously for his selfessness and outstanding generosity and service to UHI and the many people and communities throughtout Northeastern PA.
